Enrollment in this course is limited to 16 third year students.
Students teach law-related topics in local high schools and participate in weekly seminar meetings at the law school. Each student, in consultation with the hosting high school teacher, develops his/her own curriculum. In the seminars, students engage in practice teaching and role playing, and receive instruction on various aspects of teaching (e.g., lesson planning, classroom management, teaching methods). In addition, seminar discussions will focus on the similarities between teaching and practicing law, especially in the area of communication between lawyers and non-lawyers. A portion of the seminars will be devoted to students sharing their classroom experiences.
The course is graded on a Pass/No Pass basis. In addition to teaching 10 weekly, one-hour periods at their respective schools, students will submit bi-weekly journal entries and a short final paper. Prior teaching experience is not required.
