Consumer Financial Protection

Business & Tax Law, Law & Economics

Need cash now?  So do millions of Americans, who daily rely on consumer credit for retail purchases (like groceries, clothing, TV's) and for major purchases (like cars or a home). To prevent unscrupulous companies from taking unfair advantage of the least sophisticated, Congress has passed numerous federal consumer financial protection laws, and empowered regulators to craft regulations, to supervise lenders directly, and to vigorously enforce those protections.  Likewise, these same laws often permit consumers to bring their own suits, including by class action. In this course, learn the core consumer financial protection laws, how the lending industry is regulated, and the rights and remedies available to those harmed by unfair, deceptive and abusive practices.  This course is ideal for those interested in working on behalf of consumers, in private or in-house practice on behalf of lenders, or for government regulators.  Of equal importance, it is a must for new lawyers seeking to better understand their own legal rights as consumers.
