Vice Chancellor Carole Goldberg Co-Authors Report Cited in SCOTUS Decision in U.S. v. Bryant

June 13, 2016-- Carole Goldberg, vice chancellor of UCLA Academic Personnel and Jonathan D. Varat Distinguished Professor of Law, co-authored a report, “Public Law 280: State Jurisdiction Over Reservation Indian,”  which was cited in today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case, U.S. v. Bryant. The Supreme Court, citing Vice Chancellor Goldberg’s report, maintained that states have not devoted their limited criminal justice resources to crimes committed on Indian Country, even when capable of exercising such jurisdiction.
