Biography | Courses

Michael Gottfried is co-teaching Business Deals with Professor John Hilson in Spring 2014.  He is a partner at Landau Gottfried & Berger LLP and has over 20 years of diversified experience in bankruptcy cases, workouts, and out-of-court restructuring matters. He is also currently on legal counsel for the Williams Institute.  Gottfried graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a B.A. in English Literature in 1976. He received an M.L.S. from Columbia University in 1977, and his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1987.  His experience includes working as a bankruptcy lawyer in New York at the firm of Kramer, Levin, Nessen, Kamin & Frankel and as a partner in the Los Angeles offices of McDermott, Will & Emery, and Kirkland & Ellis LLP.  Gottfried is admitted to practice law in both New York and California, and has been listed in Southern California Super Lawyers as of one of the top lawyers in the State of California from 2007 through 2013.
