Course Description

LAW 670 - The Sociology of Law

This course will introduce students to sociology as a theoretical framework through which to understand law. The course will use sociological texts liberally to examine law “on the ground” as opposed to law “on the books.” The course will place a particular emphasis on law as both a producer of and tool for dismantling societal stratification and inequality, including stratification and inequality based on race, class, gender and sexuality, and their intersections.
