Course Description

LAW 780 - Tax Practice

The goal of this course is to train students in a number of skills fundamental to the practice of tax law.  Through a number of simulated exercises, students will gain familiarity with tasks that are commonly required of junior and mid-level tax associates.  These exercises will include substantial tax research, memo composition, responding to an IRS notice of deficiency, drafting of tax-specific contractual language, and tax planning.  Since one of the pivotal skills of effective tax lawyering is learning new areas of tax law as issues arise, the course will involve substantial exposure to substantive tax law.
