Distressed debt investing is a highly specialized and important segment of the alternative asset management industry with over 200 financial institutions managing over $400 billion in assets. From a legal standpoint, distressed debt investing intersects with multiple areas of the law, including bankruptcy law, secured lending, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, securities law and litigation. Distressed debt investors require attorneys and law firms representing their interests understand each of these bodies of law and the interplay among them in order to provide legal and strategic advice that maximizes the investor’s ability to use the law to their benefit.
Advanced Legal Issues in Distressed Debt Investing will focus on how to recognize, evaluate and analyze legal issues involved in distressed debt investing. It will provide an overview of distressed debt investing, capital structures and credit documentation. In addition, the course will focus on key legal issues in analyzing a potential distressed debt investment and an in depth discussion of advanced legal concepts currently being focused on by investors, bankruptcy lawyers and restructuring professionals in the distressed debt industry.
