Course Description

LAW 960 - Rights to Food and Global Food Justice

This course will give a general overview on the international right to food, and will provide examples of the justiciability of economic, social and cultural rights in international courts, as well as offering a survey of comparative constitutional principles in the protection of the right to food and attendant domestic court decisions. The course will give due consideration to the right to food amongst least developed countries and consider a range of theoretical approaches, grounded in environmental law, human rights law and critical race theory, to understand the magnitude of inequality in the international system with respect to access to food. We will consider throughout the course global food policies relevant to current global problems such as climate change, resource scarcity and malnutrition, as well as food justice in the US.
