Impeachment is our ultimate constitutional check against an out-of-control executive. But impeachment is more than a vote on whether the president is a national menace. It’s a dynamic and deliberative process, full of important decision points for presidents and lawmakers. This course will examine the explicit criteria for impeachment as articulated in the text of the Constitution. It will also examine those rare times in American history when the House of Representatives brought Articles of Impeachment against a sitting President. And lastly, it will explore the arguments set forth by lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle concerning the possible impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.
