The Latham & Watkins Scholarship in Business Law provides financial and other support to students who are interested in pursuing careers in business law and policy and places these students at the center of a robust and supportive network of business law professionals, including previous Scholarship recipients, other UCLA Law alumni and UCLA Law faculty. These merit-based scholarships are awarded annually to incoming students who have demonstrated an interest in and an aptitude for business law and policy, as well as demonstrated a commitment to public service, leadership and helping build the communities and organizations of which they are members.
In addition to receiving financial support, Latham & Watkins Scholars meet periodically with previous student and alumni recipients of the scholarship, other UCLA Law alumni and members of the UCLA Law business faculty in various settings. At these gatherings, the scholars receive mentorship and coaching guidance with respect to their law school studies, job opportunities and career paths, as well as work together on ways to give back to and build the UCLA Law community and the school's business law programs. Between meetings, the scholars connect in the halls of the school and via telephone and email to discuss matters of mutual interest.
In the spirit of the scholarship, Latham & Watkins Scholars are expected to take an active role in the school's business law activities and programs, and to help mentor and coach their successors, as second and third year students and thereafter, when they have graduated and embarked on their careers in law and business.
Led by James Barrall '75, a retired partner of Latham & Watkins and Senior Fellow in Residence at the school's Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy, the scholarship was endowed by UCLA Law alumni at Latham & Watkins, a global law firm of approximately 2,600 attorneys that has its roots in Los Angeles. The scholarship was first awarded in 2015.
Our seven Latham & Watkins Scholars have already established a special community and look forward to growing it in the years to come.

"The mentorship and relationships I gained through being a Latham & Watkins scholar far outweigh the monetary award. At our various scholar lunches I met many accomplished attorneys at major law firms and made connections which lead to summer job offers, even before OCI started. The scholarship also helped me develop my network in the legal industry and has opened my eyes to the opportunities that await me after law school. I am most thankful for all of this, and look forward to helping others in my next two years on campus and thereafter."
