Scott Cummings Speaks With Press-Telegram on Inglewood Mayor’s Conflict of Interest

Professor Scott Cummings spoke with the Press-Telegram about the criminal allegations against Inglewood’s mayor, James T. Butts. After succeeding in getting Consolidated Disposal Services to hire his unemployed brother, the mayor’s City Council chose the company to haul the city’s trash, even though it was not the lowest bidder—indicating a conflict of interest.

“The appearance of impropriety is strong, and he should have rescued himself at the earliest stage, even if he wasn’t making an up or down vote on the contract,” Cummings explained.
