More than Private Prisons: The Role of Privatization in The Prison Industry

Join the Prison Law and Policy Program for this exciting and informative panel discussion addressing the role of privatization within U.S. prisons and jails, and how it impacts incarcerated people, their loved ones and communities. Panelists will discuss how private companies can profit from incarceration, even in states and localities without private prisons or detention facilities. Students will learn about the privatization of services within prisons and jails, including private telecommunications services, prison accounts, commissaries, healthcare services and more.

Our panelists will be Maya Ragsdale, Chief Counsel, Worth Rises; Quinn Cozzens, Staff Attorney, Abolitionist Law Center; and Michael Saavedra, Legal Coordinator, Youth Justice Coalition.
