This course covers specialized, advanced issues of current interest to transactional lawyers in the motion picture and television industries. The topics change from year to year. In spring 2020, the course will focus on a comparison of (a) the traditional formulation of computing the “backend” of a linear network scripted television series (“MAGR”) with (b) the new proposed formulation over an OTT (“over the top”) platform (“SBE”). Guest speakers will be invited to speak on areas of expertise, including agents, auditors, talent and studio lawyers, studio executives. Particular attention will be accorded hotly debated issues like transparency, enforcement issues and the like. The course will be graded on the basis of a final exam and class participation.
