This course covers specialized, advanced issues of current interest to transactional lawyers in the motion picture and television industries. The topics change from year to year. In spring 2019, course will focus on "backend" (a/k/a adjusted gross receipts) deals between talent (rights holders, writers, directors, principal cast and producers) and major studios. Guest speakers will be invited to speak on areas of expertise, including agents, auditors, talent and studio lawyers, studio executives. Particular attention will be accorded hotly debated issues like affiliated transactions, treatment of new media, enforcement issues and the like. The course will be graded on the basis of a final exam and class participation.
