The Music Industry Clinic ("MIC") provides free legal services to qualifying Los Angeles area musicians and others in the music industry. MIC provides UCLA Law students with the opportunity to represent clients in real-life music transactional matters under the supervision of experienced music attorneys. We launched MIC in the Spring 2018 semester, and, after receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from the local music community, we have continued our mission to support our students and the LA music community in 2021.

If you are a musician, songwriter, producer, independent label owner, or other individual involved in the music industry and not currently represented by an attorney, we hope to be able to work with you in the future!

MIC is proud to provide two options for potential clients:

• The first option is a one-time consultation for general questions the potential client may have regarding music industry legal issues. This option is helpful for potential clients without a specific legal issue or transactional matter to address at this time, but would like general legal advice about their careers as they relate to the music industry.
• The second option is longer term legal assistance for specific transactional matters that potential clients are facing. Matters may include, among other things, band agreements, management agreements, producer agreement, indie recording agreements, sample clearances, and co-writer agreements.

Please note:

• MIC has limited capacity and will not be able to accept all qualified applicants for its services.
• MIC only provides free legal services for transactional matters and is unable at this time to accept clients for litigation matters (e.g. alleged copyright infringement)
• Before MIC provides any legal advice, we will need to run a conflicts check and you and we will both need to sign a written engagement letter that sets forth the terms and scope of our representation of you. Please do not send us any confidential information or material such as musical recordings until an engagement letter is fully signed.
