April 24, 2011 -- Professor Eugene Volokh commented on a class action lawsuit filed against the Huffington Post claiming that bloggers who agreed to work for free should get paid now that the site has been acquired by AOL. His comments appear in a San Francisco Chronicle column.
But they don't have a legal basis to sue when reality fails to conform to their optimistic imaginations, said Eugene Volokh, a UCLA law professor and former unpaid blogger for the Huffington Post himself.
"We were bloggers who were paid with the provision of an audience," he said. "That's the deal he understood and I understood, and they made good on that deal."
