Research by Gary Gates of the Williams Institute, Cited in New York Times Article on Rise in Adoptions by Gay Couples

June 14, 2011 -- Research by Gary Gates, a senior research fellow with UCLA Law’s Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, is cited in a New York Times article on the growing number of same-sex couples in the U.S. adopting children.

About 19 percent of same-sex couples raising children reported having an adopted child in the house in 2009, up from just 8 percent in 2000, according to Gary Gates, a demographer at the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law at the University of California, Los Angeles.
