Professor Schwartz Discusses Supreme Court Blocking Lawsuits Against Government Authorities in Daily Journal Article

July 27, 2012 -- Professor Joanna Schwartz commented on the U.S. Supreme Court blocking lawsuits against government authorities in a Los Angeles Daily Journal article.

"What we're left with is the conclusion that the conduct didn't violate clearly established law but no clear guidance on how police should conduct themselves," said Joanna C. Schwartz, a UCLA School of Law professor who studies the impact of lawsuits on law enforcement decision making. "What that means is, when the next case comes forward, there's no case clearly establishing one way or another whether the conduct violates the constitution, so it will be resolved on immunity grounds."
