August 16, 2012 – Professor Eugene Volokh commented on the issue of whether it is detrimental for some parents to insist on continued “invasive therapy” for their children in hopes of a miraculous healing in Christianity Today.
He defended parents’ wishes to try and save their children. “There are sometimes situations in which a parent’s decision is overridden because it’s not aggressive enough,” he said “But if the parents say [they] want more care and doctors say it is futile, [then] generally speaking, the parents’ decision prevails. Mere futility is not reason enough in that situation.”
