"There are terms in contracts and settlements that are extremely clear - you have to pay me $10,000 by tomorrow - and sometimes there are provisions where it takes more interpretation," said Sean Hecht, executive director of the Environmental Law Center at UCLA School of Law. "In some of these cases, it might be a judgment call as to what constitutes compliance. "
