That leads us to the dicey question of tangible benefits from wellness amenities, such as gyms. Jill Horwitz, a UCLA law professor, co-wrote an article that basically said: Don’t count on wellness incentives to save money by improving workers’ health.
That’s no reason not to set up a workplace gym, she told me. “It may help improve the health of employees; it may also help companies attract healthy employees. Who wants to work on a campus with a gym? People who like the gym.”
