November 4, 2013 -- Professor Sharon Dolovich commented on efforts by the state to fight a court order mandating a reduction in the prison population. Her comments appear in a Los Angeles Daily Journal article.
"I am mystified," UCLA School of Law professor Sharon Dolovich said. "At what point is the state going to stop fighting the order as a way to get itself political cover and start actually implementing thoughtful, meaningful reforms?"
Federal courts typically defer to prison officials and refrain from imposing reforms, Dolovich said, but courts handling the prison litigation have for two decades handed the state loss after loss.
