Professor Dolovich Comments on Prison Population Reduction in Daily Journal Article

February 11, 2014 -- Professor Sharon Dolovich was recently featured in a Daily Journal article discussing California's plan to cut its prison roll. A judicial panel's order could grant more control to an independent, court-appointed official who will track if the state is meeting deadlines which lower the prison population. If the state does not meet these benchmarks, the appointed official will be able to release inmates.

"Many other states have taken a look at their prison population and started to figure out how to identify people who don't need to be in custody and releasing them," said Professor Dolovich. "With this order and their concessions, they are putting California on the same path that other states have successfully followed releasing people who are found to pose little if any public safety threat. It's a big turning point."
