Lecturer in Law Keith Wattley Comments on Unsuccessful Parole for California Detainees in East Bay Express

January 25, 2016—Lecturer in Law Keith Wattley commented in an East Bay Express article on how California commissioners may be keeping people in prisons long after they’ve been rehabilitated, denying parole for arbitrary reasons and costing California tens of millions of dollars a year.

Founder and director of UnCommon Law, an Oakland nonprofit that represents lifers, Wattley stated, "[most of the twelve commissioners in California] spent their lives locking these people up and finding them to be dangerous. It takes a lot to retrain them to look at people differently."
