Professor Raustiala Interviewed for on Why Imitation is Good for the Knockoff Economy

April 18, 2016 – Professor Kal Raustiala was interviewed on on how intellectual property law doesn’t necessarily extend protections to every new product design, and why that might be a good thing in a “knockoff economy.” 

"Intellectual property law is not as important as we might think to innovation," said Professor Raustiala, who cites fashion, food, and football as industries that are constantly being driven to new heights by the fast pace of copying and remixing set by the lack of intellectual property. “A lot of innovation grows out of imitation,” he said.
