April 8, 2016 – Professor Adam Winkler published an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times in which he argues that California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed gun safety law, which Winkler says could result in a small enhancement of public safety, might potentially increase disrespect for the law.
“The Safety for All ballot measure has two main provisions: a requirement that purchasers of ammunition undergo a background check, and a ban on the possession of magazines that hold 11 or more rounds of ammunition,” writes Professor Winkler. “The first is a worthwhile reform, but there are reasons to worry about the effect of the second.”
