June 24, 2016—Professor and Faculty Co-Director of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, Ann Carlson spoke to Greenwire about the commitment from administrative officials and environmental lawyers to defend the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Water Rule to the Supreme Court. Recently, the Obama administration has suffered environmental setbacks in court, but Professor Carlson said these decisions seem to be "more episodic than a trend". These acts will likely end up in the Supreme Court, and Professor Carlson is hopeful they will pass.
"Courts are pretty deferential to environmental agencies," said Professor Carlson, "I think it's more a question of who's hearing it. ... It does show that who makes the decisions makes an enormous difference."
