Professor Adam Winkler Comments in Talking Points Memo About Donald Trump’s Encouragement of Voter Intimidation at Polls

October 18, 2016—Professor Adam Winkler was quoted in a Talking Points Memo article regarding Donald Trump’s supporters’ plans to bring guns to poll places on Election Day to intimidate voters. These Trump supporters could be violating a provision under the Voting Rights Act that prohibits intimidation, threatening, or coercion of voters.

“Someone openly carrying a firearm into a polling place in rural Montana, where a lot of people may openly carry, might not be viewed as the same intimidation as an open-carry advocate in an urban area, where openly carried guns are rare, standing around the polling places,” said Professor Winkler.
