Adam Winkler Talks to Politico about California Gun Law Case

Professor Adam Winkler talked to Politico about Peruta v. California, a major case in which an individual challenged California’s strict gun laws by arguing for the right to bear arms in public places. Because the Supreme Court recently announced that it would not hear arguments on the case, California will keep its “may issue” rubric, allowing authorities to issue concealed carry permits to qualified applicants while giving discretion to local law enforcement. Winkler explained that if the state were forced to replace this, the number of armed people would increase significantly in large cities—such as Los Angeles.
