Professor Sean Hecht spoke to KPCC’s “Take Two” about 27 national monuments recently under review, as ordered by President Trump in April. Throughout the review period, public comments were permitted for each monument until the commenting period ends. Although public opinions are not greatly considered in the decision-making process, Hecht said it’s still important that people choose to comment.
“It demonstrates a lot of support for these monuments, it puts political pressure on members of Congress and other representatives, and it helps to document what the level of support is,” Hecht said.
