Eugene Volokh Talks with Huffington Post about Proposed Rescue Laws

Professor Eugene Volokh talked to the Huffington Post about a recent situation in which teenagers saw a Florida man drowning, but refused to attempt a rescue or call 911. After a video of the man’s death went viral, lawmakers began drafting proposals that would make it illegal to sit idly by while seeing someone in grave danger, as such laws don’t currently exist in most states. Volokh explained that these laws may not change the behavior of people who witness emergencies, and the consequences of implementing them could be more detrimental than beneficial.
