L.A. Times Cites Study by Ingrid Eagly on Access to Legal Counsel for Immigrant Detainees

A nationwide study co-authored by Professor Ingrid Eagly, faculty director of the David J. Epstein Program in Public Law and Policy, was cited by the Los Angeles Times in an article that examined how immigrants are routinely held in remote detention facilities, making access to legal counsel nearly impossible.  Professor Eagly’s study analyzed 1.2 million deportation cases between 2007 and 2012 and found just 2% of detainee cases had free representation. UCLA Law alumnus Steven Shafer, ’15 co-authored the study with Professor Eagly.
