Dean Mnookin Discusses Familial DNA in the Arizona Republic

UCLA School of Law Dean Jennifer L. Mnookin, an expert on forensic evidence, was quoted in an Arizona Republic article about a case involving the arrest of a murder suspect based on the use of familial DNA. Scottsdale police were led to the suspect after finding a match with his brother's DNA. The use of familial DNA is accepted in some jurisdictions and is being challenged in others. "If thoughtful regulation is put around familial searching techniques, then we would be making a mistake pulling it out of bounds altogether, given its crime-solving potential," Mnookin said.
