[EL] Accounts of campaigning

Game Change is, obviously, a lot of fun, but it's all presidential (while the Shrum book has a lot of Senate races) and the Edwards campaign in particular presented issues that are not likely to recur in many campaigns.
That said, my favorite campaign chronicle is Robert Caro's account in Means of Ascent of the 1948 US Senate Democratic primary in Texas. Whirlybirds! Alphabetical voting!

I recommend David Plouffe's Audacity to Win. Very detailed.

Jim,
I'm not sure what other responses you got (I'm just back from two weeks of vacation), but the following two books come to mind, although I confess I haven't read either (just reviews of them). One's by a D and the other by an R:
Robert Shrum, No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner, http://www.amazon.com/No-Excuses-Concessions-Serial-Campaigner/dp/0743296524/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1
Allen Raymond, How to Rig an Election: Confessions of a Republican Operative,
http://www.amazon.com/How-Rig-Election-Confessions-Republican/dp/1416552227
I'd be curious as to what you settle on. Best, Ned

> Dear Colleagues:
> I will be teaching a seminar this fall focused on campaign speech and finance. For purposes of context, I would like to provide the students with some kind of very general overview of what the modern campaign environment is like. Can anyone suggest a lively and illuminating (but hopefully short and accessible) account of what it's like to be a candidate today? Maybe a political memoir? A tell-all article by a campaign operative?
