[EL] First Amendment/civil service

I'm wondering whether there have been efforts over the past 5-10 years to test the durability of the Supreme Court's holding in United States Civil Service Commission v. National Association of Letter Carriers (1973), regarding the constitutionality of restrictions on the First Amendment political activities of public employees, especially outside the workplace.  If there are particular key cases towards which someone could point me, I'd appreciate it.
