For those of us who have followed Rick's link to the Greg Marx criticism of Tom Friedman's support for Americans Elect, it should be noted that the Marx piece is flawed. Marx claims Jesse Ventura was an independent governor and that his governorship was flawed. Actually, Ventura was the Reform Party nominee for Governor of Minnesota, and his record was relatively successful. Ventura had a rocky relationship with the Minnesota press, which hurt him, but even the press that couldn't get along with him acknowledges that Ventura did get along fairly well with the legislature, and Minnesota did will while Ventura was Governor.
But what is worse about the Marx column is that he fails to mention the Lowell Weicker years as an independent Governor of Connecticut, and the Angus King years as an independent Governor of Connecticut. Weicker got a state income tax passed in Connecticut, and King was so successful he was overwhelmingly elected to a second term as an independent.
