[EL] validating signatures in Indiana presidential primaries

This Indiana example is not relevant to Doe v Reed.  Indiana is a state in which primary petitions are not checked by the government.  Election administrators simply count the signatures, without actually seeing if the petitions are signed by registered voters.  So, in Indiana, there are provisions for individuals to challenge petitions.

But in Washington state, election officials check the validity of signatures on petitions.

Woops left off the source of that story. The point I made regarding public right
to authenticate the accounting is illustrated by this story, though we can't
assess the accuracy of the story without seeing the underlying evidence upon
which he bases his conclusions.

Government is the servant of the people, and not the master of them. The
people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right
to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to
know. We insist on remaining informed so that we may retain control over the
instruments of government we have created.
