Re: New Poll on CU
During the event, CED and Americans for Campaign Reform released a new
poll of likely NH Republican Primary voters conducted by the University
of New Hampshire Survey Center. The poll finds that about two thirds
(61%) of likely Republican Primary voters "strongly disagree" with the
Supreme Court decision in the Citizens United case asserting that
political spending by corporations and unions is a form of free speech
protected under the First Amendment. Almost 8 in 10 likely GOP Primary
voters think members of Congress are more interested in serving special
interest groups than the people they represent and more than half
acknowledge that political contributions influence what the federal
government does. The poll finds that 70% of GOP primary voters in New
Hampshire would be more likely to vote for a candidate for president or
congress in 2012 that supported legislation to require disclosure of
campaign spending by corporations, unions, and non-profit groups.
The full poll is here.
I've put up some quick commentary on this poll here:

"MILITARY VOTER PARTICIPATION INCREASED 21% IN 2010 ELECTION"
<http://electionlawblog.org/?p=24372>
Posted on October 18, 2011 9:53 am <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=24372>
by Rick Hasen <http://electionlawblog.org/?author=3>
Very good news <http://www.fvap.gov/global/news/nr26-2011.html> : "46%
of the military voted in the 2010 election, according to the survey,
when adjusted for the substantial age and gender differences between the
military and the general population. That compares to a 45.5% voter
participation rate for the general population."
But many military voters reported not receiving their absentee ballots.
>From the report:
* more military voters received their absentee ballots in 2010
than in 2006, and 24% more military cast them, or an additional 55,000
military ballots cast.
* Unfortunately, the percentage of military voters expecting an
absentee ballot and never receiving it rose from 17% in 2008 to 29% in
2010.
* This equates to more than 112,000 military voters never
receiving their absentee ballot, an increase of 13,000 over 2008.
