         I forgot to mention, Galatoire's expects "proper attire" and specifies that no shorts or t-shirts count as proper and that JACKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR GENTLEMEN.  I assume that the latter requirement will apply as well to the male members of our group.

         Our dinner Friday night will be at Galatoire's, 209 Bourbon Street.  We have a private room reserved for 7:00 p.m.  There is a maximum capacity of 28 people.  I currently have 13 signed up, so we probably won't reach capacity, but if you want to attend it will still be prudent to let me know as soon as you can, and mention if you will have a companion.  If you have notified me you should have received an acknowledgement.  If not, please write to me again.  I have to give an exact count on Tuesday, so be sure to let me know by Monday.  If your plans change after that and you decide you'd like to come, let me know in case of a cancellation or in case I can get the restaurant to allow me to increase the number, but don't count on it.

          Assuming we are 16 or more, which we probably will be, ordering is limited to items I had to pre-select.  Relying on the advice of the person from Galatoire's I was able to select two appetizers, two soups, and a salad; steak, chicken, and fish entrees; and three desserts.  If you are a vegetarian, they can provide a vegetarian stuffed eggplant.  If you need that, let me know asap.  I ordered some vegetables and potatoes that will be served family style and divided equally, but otherwise you will pay for what you eat and drink individually.

         Why Galatoire's?  Eight or nine years ago, shortly before attending a conference in New Orleans, I happened to be reading Walker Percy's novel, "The Moviegoer," which is set in that city.  Early on in the novel, just before noon, the narrator sees William Holden walking through the French Quarter and follows him.  He sees Holden walk into Galatoire's, presumably to have lunch.  I figured if it's good enough for William Holden it's good enough for me, and had an excellent dinner at Galatoire's during the conference.  As described in my initial e-mail, it's well-known as one of the fine, traditional New Orleans restaurants.
