With only Hawaii not yet certified, the final vote totals --
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AjYj9mXElO_QdHpla01oWE1jOFZRbnhJZkZpVFNKeVE&toomany=true#gid=0
-- reveal some interesting data, including that:
-- If one excludes the votes from California and New York -- almost
one-fifth of the U.S. population! -- the two candidates are virtually even
in popular vote in the other 48+DC
-- The popular vote in the swing states was almost identical to that in the
non-swing states, except that 0.4% more of the voters in non-swing states
voted for third parties rather than for Obama
-- A stark reflection of the remarkable geographic polarization: Obama
lost 24 states. In only two of those did he receive between 45% and 50%
percent of the vote or lose by less than *nine* points, and one of those
two (Georgia) almost fell outside those parameters.
