For those of you who are not on the NCSL redistricting list here is an announcement about some important newly released CVAP data. I will be fascinated to see if these new data change any CVAP statistics about districts currently in litigation.

Subject: Update from the Census Bureau
Good afternoon,
An updated version of the CVAP file released one year ago is now available on the Census Redistricting Data Program website. This new file is sourced from the 2006-2010 ACS 5-year estimates and therefore reflects the 2010 census tracts and block groups. You may access this file by going to <http://www.census.gov/rdo/data/> www.census.gov/rdo/data/ Along the left hand column are the products available from our site. Look for the Voting Age Population by Citizenship and Race (CVAP).
In case you missed it over the holidays, this site also hosts the information on the new Section 203 determinations including the public data file which supports the determinations. This file has significant documentation to assist those of you who are interested in the determinations. On the same www.census.gov/rdo/data page look for Voting Rights Determination File.
You should bookmark this website as it is not easily found from the Census Homepage.
Please contact our office if you have any questions.
Thanks.
Cathy
