[EL] 200 years ago today, the "Gerry-mander"...

.. was made official, with Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry signing
the famous salamander map (using the same signature he affixed to the
Declaration of Independence when in a more idealistic state of mind 36
years earlier).

We're a lot better at it today. I suspect we'll soon be in the "end-game"
of the single-member district as the exclusive means to try to represent a
complex, expanding electorate. Nearly every other established democracy
already acted on that insight. American exceptionalism can only go so far.

We can see if I'm right over a beer on the 225th anniversary.
