While this is a meme for those who favor restricting ballot access,
the question in a democracy is, who decides who is fringe, who is
crackpot? There are many mature democracies that let just about
anyone on the ballot, and their systems do not seem to suffer as a
result. (Ladies and gentlemen, I present as Exhibit A the United
Kingdom, and its Monster Raving Loony Party.)
