"AP NewsBreak: Feds OK Fla. Access to Citizens List"

AP
<http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2012/07/14/us/politics/ap-us-florida-voter-list-purge.html?ref=politics>:
"In a victory for Republicans, the federal government has agreed to let
Florida use a law enforcement database to challenge people's right to
vote if they are suspected of not being U.S. citizens."
While this decision eliminates one aspect of the conflict over the
Florida voter purge, other lawsuits will no doubt continue, and the
battle over what county election officials do with the purge list
provided by the state remains unresolved.

<http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304373804577525072239849392.html?mod=googlenews_wsj>:
"One of the judges, Rosemary Collyer, signaled her doubt about the Texas
expert's findings, saying they 'took enormous hits' during
cross-examination. Another judge, Robert Wilkins, questioned how it
could be fair to require people in certain remote parts of the state to
drive more than 100 miles to get a driver's license in order to vote,
while the rules of federal court say it is an undue burden to subpoena
someone to travel that far to appear in court."

This Dallas Morning News
<http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/2012/07/texas-voter-id-trial-closing-arguments-underway.html/>
report makes me think it is almost certain that Texas will lose this
round before the trial court, and pretty quickly.
But that's not the end of the story <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=36767>.
