[EL] Apologies for over-the-top response

I think my response to Ben Adler was over-the-top. To the extent that I've contributed to the degeneration of the discussion on this list, I apologize.

It really is important that we be able to discuss these issues on their merits, with as little knee-jerk reaction or partisanship as possible, even in response to posts that we may think do not live up to that standard. It is also important that we be able to state our positions with some firmness, without that being considered uncivil.
