shameless self-plug: we talk about increasing use of smartphones in a
recent paper:

Joseph Lorenzo Hall, Emily Barabas, Gregory Shapiro, Coye Cheshire, and
Deirdre K. Mulligan, “Probing the Front Lines: Pollworker Perceptions of
Security & Privacy,” presented at the 2012 Electronic Voting Technology
Workshop/Workshop on Trustworthy Elections (EVT/WOTE’12), 2012.

One of the things that makes me nervous here is the use of "e-voter guide"
apps... apps that intend to replace the traditional voter guide with a
digital equivalent. This is great on the one had because it reduces wasted
printing of paper and associated costs. However, any app that allows you to
"save your votes to consult later in the voting booth" seems ripe for abuse.

best, Joe
