"Court Rules North Dakota Campaign Ban Unconstitutional"

CCP
<http://www.campaignfreedom.org/2012/10/31/preliminary-injunction-in-north-dakota-case/>:

Calling the law "clearly invalid," a federal judge in North Dakota
today ruled that the state's 100-year-old ban on election-day
    campaigning is unconstitutional
    <http://www.campaignfreedom.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/North-Dakota-Order-Granting-Preliminary-Injunction.pdf>.

The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by the Center for
Competitive Politics, a pro-free speech group. The Center represents
Gary Emineth, who wishes to post yard signs on his property,
distribute fliers, and discuss the upcoming election with his
neighbors. The North Dakota statute bans any person, on election
day, from "in any manner trying to induce or persuade" others to
support or oppose any candidate or ballot measure.

This ruling has got to be right under existing law.

"Despite laws against lying, tall tales have become the norm on the
    campaign trail, experts say" <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=42890>

Posted on October 31, 2012 9:45 am <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=42890>
by Rick Hasen <http://electionlawblog.org/?author=3>

Cleveland Plain Dealer
<http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2012/10/despite_laws_against_lying_tal.html>:
"Ohio is one of 20 states with laws against making false or misleading
statements in political campaigns. A violation is a misdemeanor with a
penalty of up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. But a prosecutor
can't file charges without a complaint being filed with the Ohio
Elections Commission, a seven-member bipartisan board that rules on
election complaints. And in the last decade, the commission has not
referred a single case involving a false statement to a county prosecutor."

That actually may be a good thing.

"City Sends Cease and Desist Letter in Voter ID Case"

Fight in TN
<http://www.memphisdailynews.com/news/2012/oct/31/city-sends-cease-and-desist-letter-in-voter-id-case/>:
"Less than 2,000 Memphians have the photo library cards issued by the
city of Memphis starting in July. But whether they are valid ID in order
to vote in the Nov. 6 elections is causing some confusion in the wake of
an Appeals Court ruling last week. The court ruled they are but
instructions from the state to the Shelby County Election Commission
after the ruling is no change in how those voters are treated. The
ruling came as the early voting period in advance of the Nov. 6 Election
Day was already under way. The early voting period runs through Thursday."

I did not know they were Memphians.
