[EL] The Claim that Political Spending is Good for Shareholders”

Surely "reform" advocates do not want to argue that political spending is not good for corporations. That would overturn more than 100 years of their own advocacy efforts.

But it is an interesting approach. Before, it would be a mistake not to regulate spending because spending allows people to gain influence in the political system. Now, it's a mistake not to regulate spending because spending doesn't give people any influence in the political system.

Allen Dickerson and I have recently put a paper on SSRN than addresses many of the Bebchuck/Jackson arguments. http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2239987
