    Breaking News: Supreme Court Decides Arizona Election Case
    <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=51680>

Posted on June 17, 2013 7:22 am <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=51680> by
Rick Hasen <http://electionlawblog.org/?author=3>

The opinion is by Justice Scalia affirming, requiring Arizona to accept
the federal form for voter registration (under Congress's Elections
Clause powers). Justices Thomas and Alito dissented. [No Shelby County
opinon today.]

Here <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=48440>was my original post on the
case, "Sleeper Case of the Year?", where I wrote: "This is one of those
cases where if the Supreme Court affirms the result in this case (that
Arizona must accept the federal form), it will be no big deal, but if
the Court reverses it would mark a major change in U.S. election law."

More to come when the opinion posts.

AP:
<http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2013/06/16/us/politics/ap-us-irs-investigation.html?ref=politics>

    Holly Paz, who until recently was a top deputy in the division that
    handles applications for tax-exempt status, told congressional
    investigators she reviewed 20 to 30 applications. Her assertion
    contradicts initial claims by the agency that a small group of
    agents working in an office in Cincinnati were solely responsible
    for mishandling the applications.

    Paz, however, provided no evidence that senior IRS officials ordered
    agents to target conservative groups or that anyone in the Obama
    administration outside the IRS was involved.

"Internal Revenue Service employees in Ohio, who singled out
conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for extra scrutiny,
likely did not consider the political implications, an IRS official in
