If the commission rejects the new request, Arizona could go to
court, Scalia wrote, which the state failed to do before.
Horne pledged to work with Secretary of State Ken Bennett to pursue
that route. Supporters of the law, passed by voters as Proposition
200, said that otherwise, the ruling leaves a loophole that could
allow illegal immigrants to go to the polls.
"We want to protect the sanctity of the ballot," Horne said. The
ruling "gave us a path to victory. ... It's just a delay in our
winning."
Gov. Jan Brewer, who supported the law during her tenure as
secretary of state, said, "We will go on."
