Charlie Spies knows how to raise money. The Republican lawyer helped

I have no specific information on these allegations, but time and again
things which have been alleged to be fraud based upon voting or
registration records turn out to be much less nefarious than political
enemies are predisposed to believe.

It is a lesson I wish more Republicans would heed.

Republican FEC Nominee Argued for Overturning of Ban on Corporate

But advocates may be disappointed to learn that Goodman, an attorney
with LeClairRyan, has a record of opposing certain campaign finance
    reforms.

He argued --- ultimately unsuccessfully --- in United States v.
Danielczyk to overturn the ban on direct corporate contributions to
candidates. In that case, a judge ruled that the Citizens United
decision invalidated the ban on direct corporate contributions to
    candidates.

"Citizens United was a sea change in First Amendment jurisprudence
and renders the absolute ban on limited corporate contributions
    unconstitutional," Goodman said

Limiting Pro-Hillary Super PAC Donations to $25K Per Person Intended

Seems like the worst of both worlds: too high to count for most of
America as grassroots, and too low to compete with the multimillion
donations to other presidential super PACs.

Breaking News: Ann Ravel and Lee Goodman Nominated to Federal
    Election Commission <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=51936>

CPI
<http://www.publicintegrity.org/2013/06/21/12881/white-house-nominates-new-fec-commissioners>:

The White House today nominated two people to serve six-year terms
    on the Federal Election Commission.

The nominees are Lee E. Goodman
<http://www.leclairryan.com/lee-goodman/>, an attorney at law firm
    LeClairRyan, and Ann Ravel <http://www.fppc.ca.gov/?id=58>,
chairwoman of the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

Goodman will be floated to replace Republican Commissioner Don
McGahn, sources close to the nomination tell the Center for Public
Integrity <http://www.publicintegrity.org>, while Ravel will replace
Democrat Cynthia Bauerly, who resigned earlier this year.

It will be interesting to see if the FEC Republican Commissioners'
resistance to enforcing campaign finance law vigorously changes with the
departure of Don McGahn.

I could not think of a stronger candidate for the FEC than Ann Ravel,
but it is a huge loss for the FPPC.
